Creating The Illustrations - The Shoe Lady

We had a tenant we called The Shoe Lady. Looking back a rather harsh name but she was very eccentric and lived in a parallel universe. Because of my mother’s own character, she was happy to rent her a room even if she didn’t always pay the rent. Here she is with her odd shoes, broken radio and her wastepaper bin on fire. Her odd .shoes were obtained by stealing them from racks outside shoe shops. In the 1950s shoe shops often had single shoes outside the shop for customers to try on. The shoes were always single shoes, never in pairs. That’s why there was never a pair of shoes in her room and she often wore odd shoes.

All the illustrations were created on an Apple iPad.
